Vitiligo

Q. What is Vitiligo?

A. Vitiligo is a skin disorder characterized by white patches that can occur anywhere on the body. No one knows the precise cause of Vitiligo; the condition stems from a lack of normal melanin pigment. Vitiligo occurs when pigment-producing melanocyte cells are destroyed or fail to function properly. Researchers believe malfunctions in the nervous system or the immune system may injure or destroy the melanocytes. Since vitiligo can be inherited, there is also a genetic element to the disease. The condition affects about 1-2% of the population.

Q. How does IPL treat Vitiligo?

A. By delivering intense pulsed light to the affected area, the treatment of Vitiligo is now possible. Rejuvenia uses IPL for the selective repigmentation of the skin. This is done by restoring lost pigment and stimulating the production of melanin in the affected area. This treatment will be completed with a few short sessions.

Q. Is the treatment safe?

A. Yes, it is very safe. Some people may experience mild reddening of the treatment area for a day or so after treatment, but other complications are rare. The Intense Pulsed Light system delivers energy to the skin very gently. Plus, the hand piece extracts heat from the skin during each pulse of light for maximum protection.
